ESG

Properties

Operating almost 50 hotels and campsites in 8 countries, properties are an important focus for our ESG strategy. Therefore, we are constantly monitoring the impact that our hotels have on the environment through carbon emissions, energy usage and resource consumption.

The relevant SDGs for this pillar are:

Energy and carbon emissions

We are always looking at ways to minimise our use of energy, which can generate both emissions and cost savings for the company. Just like in previous years, in 2024 we calculated our Scopes 1, 2 and 3 emissions across our whole European portfolio and disclosed them in the ESG section of the 2024 Annual Reports and Accounts (pp. 87-88).

In 2025 we begun working with external specialists to create a decarbonisation plan, which will support the submission of our emission reduction targets to SBTi (Science-Based Target initiative) by the end of the year. This will be a comprehensive plan listing actions to reduce our carbon emissions across all Scopes, that is spanning from energy consumption to supply chain emissions.

To support our decarbonisation journey, already in 2019 we started sourcing 100% renewable electricity for all our properties in the UK, Netherlands and Germany, with Croatia, Austria and Hungary following in 2023.

Building certifications

Some of our properties are already certified by BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) and we are currently working to achieve either this for all future new-build, refurbishments and repositioning projects. The BREEAM certification follows an assessment carried out by a third-party, which looks at building energy efficiency, health and social impact, circularity, biodiversity, and other areas of sustainability, certifying that the building achieves a certain performance in these areas. We are currently also working to get the BREEAM in-use certification for some of our hotels, which reflects the environmental performance of existing properties that are already in operations.

Climate risk assessments

In line with the TCFD regulation, we conduct a yearly climate risk assessment at the Group level, in order to evaluate the main risks that climate change poses to the organisation. Starting from 2024, we have increased the level of detail of the analysis by conducting these assessments at the property level, giving us a more thorough understanding of climate-related risks for each of our properties.

Waste management

With waste generation being a natural part of hotel operations, solid waste management practices are a key focus at PPHE. In 2025 we have harmonised our waste management approach across all properties in the UK, ensuring that they all have recycling and food waste collection on site (in compliance with the Simpler Recycling legislation). The next step will be to expand this setup across all other regions of the Group, in order to improve the sustainability of our operations.

An important target we set is to remove all single-use plastic items from our hotel rooms by the end of 2026. We have made significant progress on this, with a key step being the replacement of all small toiletry amenities with larger dispensers, significantly reducing the amount of plastic waste generated. Other items have will follow in 2025 and we are on track to achieve the target.

Future developments and other initiatives

Besides the above, we are also working on initiatives to reduce the use of single-use plastics and water consumption, improve waste management practices, and embed biodiversity in our properties.
